Joe’s medium of choice is watercolor with sojourns into gouache and acrylic. Being a gardener, florals are a favorite subject of his paintings
Joe Hoover has had a strong and active life-long interest in art. Music and elementary education, however, are what dominated his adult life, with teaching 3rd-grade classroom and conducting Coventry Singers which he founded in 1971. It was after retirement, then, that art became his focus when he took watercolor classes with Tara Grim and James McFarlane. In a short time, membership with Berks Art Alliance, Chester County Art Association, and Pottstown Area Artists Guild drew this artist into an active involvement with over 2 dozen shows annually – group and solo, juried and non-juried.
Joe’s medium of choice is watercolor with sojourns into gouache and acrylic. Being a gardener, florals are a favorite subject of his paintings. More recently, abstracts have been added to the Hoover oeuvre. As to style, this artist feels he expresses himself best with a bold use of color, but with limited attention to tedious detail.
