The intricate details are inspired by classic paper cut techniques.
Husband and wife, Elaine and Bill Snell, work as a team out of Easely, S.C. All their artwork starts with an original drawing that is refined and translated into a pattern. Pieces are cut from mild steel or copper with a plasma cutter. The intricate details are inspired by classic paper cut techniques. Vibrantly colored transparent paints are used in some pieces to enhance the reflective qualities of the ground steel surface. Other pieces use the natural black steel color to display the artworks silhouette. All pieces are finished with a clear lacquer. To prevent rust and protect the artwork, all pieces should be displayed indoors or in a covered area and coated annually.
