My goal is to compliment the color and texture of the painted silk with a sculpted or wheel thrown ceramic base.
I have been a clothing designer and 2 dimensional artist for most of my life. My education consists of painting classes taught by Southwestern watercolorists and silk painters. I am self-taught in multiple techniques of fabric painting.
In 1996 I developed a line of painted silk lampshades. I felt the need to develop an art lamp that was not traditional and had a more sculptural feel. In order to realize this vision, I designed a more free formed shape for the shade that fit into a ceramic base, which housed the socket & bulb.
My goal is to compliment the color and texture of the painted silk with a sculpted or wheel thrown ceramic base. I work with a variety of surface techniques glazed, sand blasting, acrylic paint, and metal patinas.
Using my design and specifications I presently work with a talented local potter who makes wheel turned and glazed base to complete my line of lamps . My art lamps are completely original designs.
In 2010 I introduced an affordable limited edition line of printed silk lamps. They’re printed with archival inks on a large format printer in my studio. They employ the same attention to detail and construction as the originals.
My influences range from Georgia O’Keeffee and Art Nouveau through modern ceramic painters, with a bit of Andy Goldsworthy thrown in. It has been an honor to be part of the talented network of artists from the east to the west coast.
