Art isn’t just creating a pretty picture; it is a mindset, a new way of seeing and solving problems.
Art has always been a crucial part of my life. When I was a kid, I filled dozens of notebooks with crayon drawings of flowers, hearts, and my family. Soon I graduated to old craft paint on sheets of printer paper, and from there my love of painting blossomed. Now, creating art and painting has expanded into every aspect of my life. Art isn’t just creating a pretty picture; it is a mindset, a new way of seeing and solving problems.
As I entered high school, I was uncertain whether or not I wanted art to be my career. Now, I know that I want to continue doing what I love and finding new applications for it in the real world. Currently, I’m in 11th grade at Boyertown Area Senior High School.
While I originally enjoyed drawing and using colored pencils, my true passion is painting. I love blending colors and seeing how they interact with each other to mix the perfect hue. Painting is a sort of escape from reality for me. When I have a paintbrush in my hand, I don’t have to think about anything besides the image I am creating. There is something incredible about the process of a painting. I am blessed to be able to see each one start as a pencil skeleton and layer by layer transform into something extraordinary, no matter the complexity of the piece.
My painting teacher, Ms.Hendrix, has really helped me develop my love of art and painting. I’m down in her room working on a project (or two!) everyday, whether I have class or not. She has helped me decide that I want to pursue art as a career and realize that I should continue to do what I love because I’ll come back to it no matter what. My drawing teacher, Mr.Dareneau, has also made me a better artist. He has helped me pay more attention to the detail in drawings and creating interesting and even compositions.
Another huge inspiration for me is nature. I love incorporating it into my art to add freshness and life. Leaves and flowers are my favorite addition to any piece, and with such a wide variety of types and colors, there is always some that fit in.
Looking forward, I want to focus on expanding into digital art and other mediums. I’m excited to see what else I can create, and I hope art is as important in my future as it has always been in my past.
